Why is the world in such a state? Two theories on that. One is that the world isn't in any state we just have immediate access to news as and when it is happening. The second is because we are dominated by vile career politicians with very short aims. William Hague was a good example on how not to unleash a moron on the foreign office!!

labour party for disaster

The gang of four formed the SDP as a result of leaving the labour party. They then merged with the Liberals who then created the Liberal democrats. They ended up having 8 seats in the last election! The new split and new party should be called the Gravy Train party. Those who don't like the present democratically elected leader like Chuka Umuna, would want to leave just in case they lose the current gravy train!!!

animal cruelty

Shark fin soup has long been a staple at banquets across Asia, but the common method for collecting those fins has put conservationists on a campaign to eradicate the dish.
Shark finning involves cutting off sharks’ fins and then throwing the fish back into the ocean, leaving it unable to move. The fish usually die afterwards.
A recent decision to target the supply chain is making for fresh progress in combating the practice.

Vote leave

There is a great danger that the government will spend lots of money on spin doctors to twist the facts and get people in this country to vote to stay because they will be scared. The truth is the EU as it stands is an ineffective and incompetent green elephant not capable of making decisions. It is simply an area of economic activity that makes it easier for industrialists to make more money at our expense. I was a fierce supporter of a union but the South European financial crisis has shown me and many others that the EU is about German Hegemony. Vote to stay in if you want the Germans to dictate policy and impose regulations.

European Unity is a great idea but we are not ready yet. We are not, to start with able to communicate in the same language and until we all speak fluent German a union will not work!

Those who say Britain will not survive on our own should look at Norway and Switzerland. It's important that we campaign for a NO vote on the lines argued by Owen Jones and other progressive forces! Get the fuck out!

Sub standard programming on telly

It is of course our right to be treated like mushrooms, live in the dark and be fed by shit, but I think television producers must do more to ensure that the quality of programmes on our telly gets better. Pathetic story lines on programmes like East Enders do nothing to improve the quality of what we watch. And since I have to pay for the privilege of watching BBC I insist that the quality improves. When is Stacey, for example, going to be shown to think that she is the Ayotolah Khomeni? And when will the producers come up with a story that covers the concerns of blond Eskimos living in Streatham? They are failing in their duty of care by ignoring these subjects ( since the have covered everything else..)

EU

This week, the Government fired some of its biggest guns – a Treasury report and a visit from Barack Obama – to try and blackmail the British people into voting to stay in the EU. We were expecting this to happen, but not this soon.
Downing Street are clearly panicking. They know that the Prime Minister’s renegotiation has not convinced the British public. They are now trying to scare people into voting to stay in the EU by doing down Britain’s economy and our place in the world.

Greek islanders nominated for Nobel

My thoughts are with the islanders and many volunteers who are spending vast amount of effort and time helping Syrian refugees who had no choice other than to leave their war torn country.

An online campaign run by the grassroots Avaaz platform for residents of the Greek islands of the Eastern Aegean to be nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for their contribution in the refugee crisis has passed the halfway mark to reaching its target of 500,000 signatures.

“The native populations of the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea (and many other external, worldwide, non-profit organizations and diaspora Greeks) have done and are doing anything possible to help the displaced Syrian refugees and make them as comfortable as possible, although they themselves have very little to offer, despite being subjected to a severe economic crisis for many years,” Avaaz says in its campaign announcement. “On remote Greek islands, grandmothers have sung terrified little babies to sleep, while teachers, pensioners and students have spent months offering food, shelter, clothing and comfort to refugees who have risked their lives to flee war and terror.”

Leave

Save Our NHS In an open letter, more than fifty healthcare workers including doctors, nurses and paramedics have called for the UK to Vote Leave to save the NHS. They argue that the NHS has not received the necessary funding and that only if we Vote Leave can we protect the NHS. Commenting, one of the signatories, Dr Philip Cunnington said: ‘Billions of pounds of UK taxpayers’ money is sent to Brussels every year while the NHS is starved of funding. Let's Vote Leave on June 23rd and take control of our spending, allocating it to more important things such as the NHS'. The NHS faces a dangerous cocktail of threats, amongst them the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) - a series of trade negotiations taking part in secret between the EU and the US - and rising patient demand. For the NHS to prosper, we must leave the EU. If we Vote Leave and take back control, we can spend our money on our priorities such as the NHS.

Leave

You may have seen this evening’s news. I’m sure you’re as staggered as I am to learn that the Government is going to spend more than £9 million of taxpayers’ money sending out a leaflet to every single home in the UK telling us we should stay in the EU.
They promised they wouldn't do this. Yet they are now proposing to spend more money promoting a 'Remain' vote than even the official Remain campaign will legally be able to.
We know this is a big decision, and that people are still making their minds up. That's why there will be two campaigns to try and convince voters what the best option is: Leave or Remain.
Each campaign will be allowed to raise and spend the same amount to make their case and convince the voters.
But the Government is losing the argument and it seems they don't want a fair fight.
They want to skew the debate, using tired old arguments that have long since been discredited.
And they want to do it with your money.
They are going to spend £9.3 million of YOUR hard-earned cash on these leaflets. We already send £350 million to Brussels every week – why should we hand over even more of our taxes to pay for propaganda?

Vote on Cyprus

Allow Cypriot refugees to vote in a Cyprus settlement referendum
As a result of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, approximately 200,000 Cypriots (one third of the population) were forced out of their homes and lands in the northern area of the Republic of Cyprus.

Thousands of displaced Cypriots fled for their lives and sought sanctuary outside of Cyprus as refugees. The refugees and displaced persons have lived in hope that one day they will be permitted the right to return to their towns and villages in the Turkish-occupied north of their island.

Despite United Nations resolutions such as 37/253 endorsing the right to return, the fate of refugees and the displaced will be decided in a negotiated political settlement. We expect a proposed negotiated settlement to be put to the people of Cyprus in referenda.

While displaced persons who reside in Cyprus are permitted to vote a Cyprus settlement referendum, the refugees who reside outside of the island are currently denied that right. Non-resident citizens are also denied their right to vote in referenda that will finally decide the fate of their country.

The right to vote in Cyprus settlement referenda should be extended to those refugees who live in exile and all those Cypriots in the disapora. They are victims of war, invasion and occupation and should not be denied the right to participate in shaping the future of their homeland.

Cypriot law stipulates a six month residency requirement in order to qualify an individual to vote. But that is a major obstacle for those living in the diaspora and in particular for the refugees whose homes are under Turkish military occupation.

Go

This week saw how the EU weakens our safety and security, the British steel industry suffer due to the control we have handed over to the EU and leading businesspeople and entrepreneurs come out in favour of Vote Leave.

EU membership threatens our national security
Justice Minister Dominic Raab delivered an important speech on Wednesday in which he highlighted how the EU makes us less safe. He stressed that if we stay in the EU, we will be unable to take the steps needed to ensure our security, such as controlling our own borders, deporting dangerous criminals and fully supporting our NATO allies.
His speech followed Vote Leave research which pointed to 50 of the most dangerous EU criminals who came to the UK and committed serious crimes. The EU’s ‘free movement’ rules mean that many criminals can travel from the EU to the UK undetected. This makes the UK less safe and less secure.

EU disaster zone

Not a great fun of any Tory but Michael Gove is right. The so called agreement with the EU the one between UK and EU is not legally binding. It won't be until it is enshrined in EU law and it hasn't been yet. That means that anyone can challenge a decision by the UK to stop additional benefits to migrants something that will obviously happen the day after our stupid government tries to do it the European court will declare it illegal. Cameron will then come back crying that he couldn't do what he promised to deliver. Its all a stage managed tragedy! Vote to leave!!

Vote to leave

EU too messed up

Imagine if we Vote Leave… We can trade freely with the EU without accepting the supremacy of EU law.
With the details of the PM’s hollow deal now published, you can now expect to see plenty of doom-mongering coming from Downing Street and the IN campaign. They know that the Prime Minister’s deal won’t bring back any powers to the UK, so will try to scare people into voting to stay in the EU.

Tuesday, 23 February 2016

Vote keave

The PM claims that the deal is ‘legally binding’ and will change the EU Treaties in a few years. False. It is impossible for the EU’s leaders to create a legally binding agreement now that is delivered in many years’ time. The only thing that is ‘legally binding’ is changes to the Treaties. This has not happened. It may never happen. It requires the agreement of all 28 countries, often after referendums. We do not even know who the leaders will be in a few years’ time - never mind what they will agree.
The European Court is in charge of exactly the same things after the deal as it was before the deal. The European Court will be able to chuck David Cameron’s deal in the bin the day after the referendum vote. As the former Director General of the Legal Service of the EU Council said: ‘There is no possibility to make a promise that would be legally binding to change the treaty later’. This means that the Prime Minister might not even get the insignificant change he is boasting about.

Lets get out!

The EU was created to promote the interests of the good people of Europe but it has ended up becoming a super beast that has gone out of control.

The EU was instrumental, through the Germans, in creating the vast instability in the 80s that saw the premature recognition of Croatia and the collapse of the Yugoslavia which led to the atrocities in the Balkans. The Germans were incapable of sorting the mess they created out so they drafted the US and Britain in to sort the problem out. The EU dealt with the Euro finance crisis by imposing extreme measures on the peoples of Greece, Portugal and Spain their attitude was and still is nasty. They are also totally incapable of resolving the current refugee crisis out with little fascist states like Hungary treating refugees like animals.

Vote to leave the EU its the only way to force that nasty Levithan to reform itself! Get Britain out!!

No to the fucked up EU

So Cameron has come back after a carefully rehearsed show where the other states were told to pretend to hold out then give in to us having the right to request the minor changes we want? We had leading and great leaders of the world like the president of Lithuania and the PM of the Check republic telling us how hard it all was? What have we been reduced to! These funny little states depend on us much more than we on them yet they are calling the shots?

Unfortunately the fear merchants will tell us that we will collapse without Donald Duck Task not being our President and that if we leave it will all be a disaster! What total rubbish!

Vote to leave this is a once in a life time opportunity to start from the beginning. The EU needs to be brought down then we restructure it!

Chance to leave

Let's take back control. Our money, our priorities. Safety first.
This is it. The Prime Minister is in Brussels today meeting EU leaders to try to persuade them to agree to his trivial demands. He is likely to emerge in the small hours of tomorrow morning claiming a hard-fought victory – probably with a ‘new’ surprise concession – and announce that the Government will campaign for the UK to stay in the EU.
The British people will see through this charade. David Cameron has dropped nine out of ten things he wanted to change in our relationship with the EU. His deal will not deliver the ‘fundamental change’ he used to talk about, and will do nothing to take back control of our borders, our economy and our democracy. The European Court will be in charge of exactly the same things at the end of this negotiation as it is now - and the European Court will be able to throw in the bin the so-called 'concessions' like the 'emergency brake' after we've voted. EU

I have about 200 real friends on face book and I have regular contact with about 30 of them who I see often. Based on what these 30 people say and the friends they have it would look like the majority of them would vote to stay in but then the majority of them are between 30 to 50 so I think this age group favors Europe.

On the other hand the parents of friends I have and their friends, all over 65 are saying the direct opposite and based on that I would say that there is a strong age bias when it comes to the EU with older people being more apprehensive and not wanting change. My nephews mates, all between 17 to 22 are all in favour of the Union so can I deduct any conclusions from this super scientific study? Yes I can. I am afraid that we will end up staying within the EU because the world is changing and the majority of those of us under 50 understand that ( excluding me )

I had it with government department incompetence. Many have had problems with areas of government where everything you want to do has to be done via automated systems. The DVLA gets first price for total incompetence though.

But of course the DVLA do not recognise the post code this is even though the royal mail system shows it up when you do a search?? I have written to the machines at DVLA but they have of course replied by sending me automated replies saying the computer says no. If they bloody bother to look for the post code by doing a search they will discover that myself and 24 other flats have existed since bloody December? How incompetent can you bloody get??

Greece by S Reeves

A hugely disappointing attempt to make a documentary programme of modern Greece by Simon Reeve who has, in the past, produced some good work.

The programme is obsessed with focusing on every negative aspect of the current situation in Greece. A country bigger is size than England ( geographically ) has more to showcase than the small little areas Simon concentrates on. It will be like making a documentary of modern England and spending most of your camera time on Camberwell or Peckham. Yes there are problems but the Greeks are dealing with them and the country has much more to offer and be proud of. And at least they don't come up with disgraceful ideas like the bedroom tax punishing those in greater need?

The other thing that will annoy most who are familiar with Greece is the simplistic analysis he used to explain the traditional gun culture in Crete. He is obsessed with showing how the native population there dislike the  Germans? That is absolutely pathetic and it does not explain why guns have been that important since 1910 ( Balkan wars ) His entire effort is unfortunately simplistic and his delivery very poor. The relatives I have living on the island of Crete would some times talk about the perceived threat from Turkey but non of them every mention the Germans or associate them with a problem? Perhaps Simon is anti German and he is trying to find a way to have a go at them? Not very good journalism!

In conclusion I would give the programme 2 out of 10 ( the sea looked very blue ) and would say Joanna Lumleys Greek Odyssey documentary in 2009 is far more realistic and superior. He should concentrate on making programmes on how strong the wind can be in Streatham to be honest!

EU or not?

I was always in favour of a United Europe and I still am. What I don't think will work is the constant instability displayed by the British people who have constant doubts about the benefits of remaining in the EU.

The facts to me are simple. It is a no win situation. If you we stay in the EU we must accept the rules that come with it. That includes what we can and can not do within our own borders. There are financial benefits with staying within the club and I think those who are trying to get us to vote Yes will highlight these. What I can not deal with is for us to be having the constant debate as to whether all evil comes from Europe or not. The referendum will put an end to all that.

So my position is that I am not happy with the way the Germans behaved during the Greek and Portugese financial crisis and very unhappy with the way states like Hungary have dealt with the refugee issue. That makes me anti Europe on the other hand even I will agree that Britain on its own will be a weaker country. So if after the referendum we vote to stay in then I want everyone to accept once and for all that we are part of a United Europe and that a federation is around the corner. That is that! At the end of the day there are more than 2 million Brits living in Spain, Greece, Cyprus Portugal and Italy most of whom do not make any effort to speak the local language which is fine but lets stop whinging about the EU citizens who come over here?? Just shut the f..k up?

H20

Drink as much water as you can as long as your doc doesn't advise you not to do so because of a medical condition. Water cleans your system out. Avoid water in plastic bottles.

More walking more regular exercise but never over do it those who do too much damage their muscles in the long run so best rule is 'all in moderation including moderation' and drink more water avoiding water in plastic bottles.

Fitness

moderate exercise is key to success, moderate and regular is the best way. What does regular mean? That depends on your body type age and state of health. So for a 40 something male I would say run 3 times a week for at least 40 minutes each time and walk everywhere don't drive to the shops or school walk instead!

BT

I have contacted BT to complain about the level of service they provide. It astonishes me that they make the claims they make about their products when the truth is they are not up to providing what they say they can. More of us should and must complain! Unacceptable.

'First it is almost impossible to navigate all the hurdles you place on your system and to get to you. Unacceptable for a communications company! My 80 year old mother will never be able to do this! Second I got 2 texts saying thet my fiber optic is arriving and I thought that's who I had when you send me the equipment 3 weeks ago? It is of course impossible to contact you by replying to the text to ask what this is. The other thing is since installing your broadband system 3 weeks ago the download time takes longer than before. I don't know why I am paying £65 a month for faster broadband when the truth is it is not faster at all?? Can you clarify? '

Language

Does the government idea of evicting women from the country who don't speak English means that the vast majority of the two million British people who live in Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Italy will face the same fate? Everyone knows that not many of the Brits who live abroad bother to learn the local language. Cameron needs to examine the nonsense he often comes up with and control his mouth! And why are they targeting women?

look good

It is a myth to say that the way one looks exclusively depends on their genetic make up, genetics matters but you can do a lot to help yourself so learn how your body works and get on improving it!

Greek soldiers

More than four decades on, the families of six Greek soldiers who were either killed or had disappeared during Cyprus' tumultuous past have been given some measure of closure after receiving their remains.
Relatives attended a brief military ceremony Monday at Cyprus' National Guard headquarters where they received the remains in six small, flag-draped coffins which will be flown to Greece aboard a military transport aircraft.

Some 77 Greek nationals are listed as missing in action. The remains of 14 Greeks have so far been identified.

Ginger news

Apparently Harry is now seeing a Greek royal Princess. She is very good looking but a bit young for the ginger man? Anyway the British German royals are not too bothered about who the second son gets married to. Look at his uncle Andrew he ended up with... you know the story. On the other hand they better look after our young Greek Royal she has more class.

Crete

I welcome the news that the Liberal minded K Mitsotakis has been elected to be leader of the New Democracy party of Greece. Although I am not a Conservative I accept that right now Greece needs a pragmatist to handle the mess created by the far left party Syriza, a party that was twice elected to oppose reforms that ended up imposing more drastic measures than were originally proposed. K Mitsotaks, of Cretan origin, has the qualifications and the backround to make a difference. PASOK which is the Socialist party I supported since the 80s is clearly dead so a liberal Mitsotakis seems to be the only answer to the vast plethora of problems the Greek state has. He is educated and has lived in France and has some progressive views unlike those of the ever changing Tsipras who does not appear to know what day of the week it is.

Clegg

nick Cleggs performance on the Andrew Marr show this morning proves why career politicians can not be trusted. I carefully listened to what he had to say and he never answered any of the questions he was asked. There must be a way to ensure that hot air merchants like him are kept out of key positions where their influence can damage our world.

should we be concerned about the fact that 'programmes' such as big brother incite wannabe people into behaving badly and in a very unacceptable way or should we add to provocative rubbishy like this to the list of things we must tolerate so that the label of freedom of speech remains true?

Anthems

Great opportunity for the people of England to have their own national anthem it's not about exercising our nationalism but exerting our our unique identity within the strong British family of nations. Hope that parliament does the right thing for a change.
